| WHY ISN'T IT/DOESN'T IT... We work hard to make the site as easy to use, complete and accurate as possible but it's never going to be 100% perfect. If you see something wrong - typos, inaccuracies, missing images/links - let us know and we'll do our best to put it right. (:R

| HOW DO THE COVER RATINGS WORK? theNude.eu is at it's core a cover collection. What makes a good cover is the topic of endless debate - the model, the photographer, the location, the lighting, the mood, the composition - we can probably all agree that it's a combination of many different elements combined to create the perfect cover shot.
We introduced the ability for our users to rate all covers on the site, on a 10-star system - 1 being the lowest rating, 10 the highest. You can change your rating as often as you'd like, but are limited to one vote per cover, per month. The top ten rated covers on a monthly basis are displayed in the right hand column.
There are two ways to define the top ten covers - either by the total ratings received, or by the average rating received. Both have their drawbacks - the total ratings received method might seem fairer initially, but the problem is that even if a cover gets a lot of low votes (meaning people don't like it) its score still increases, meaning it tends to stay in the top ten when it perhaps doesn't deserve to, whereas lower rated covers outside the top ten don't even get seen and never get a chance to gain additional votes. The average rating solves this problem, as when a high-rated cover gets a lot of lower votes, it falls out of the top ten, allowing space for new more highly rated covers. The drawback here of course is that a single 10-star rated cover will be ranked higher than a cover with multiple 10-star votes and a single 9-star vote.
We thought long and hard about how best to rank the covers, and have decided that the fairest system long term is without a doubt the average rating system. This is balanced with a "minimum number of ratings required" variable, which prevents a cover with just a couple of high votes from out-ranking a highly rated cover with a lot of votes but a slightly lower average.
There are unfortunately some people who try to cheat the system, usually by registering multiple votes from the same (or obviously similar) IP addresses. We now have a system in place to prevent this, and users found deliberately trying to cheat will find their IP's blocked from the site.
We welcome feedback on the system, and are open to all suggestions and ideas on how to improve it - ultimately all we want to do is best reflect what YOU think!

| THE VOTES ARE FAKE One of the most contentious issue of the site!
Because you don't need to be a member to vote for covers, we receive a huge number of fake votes. Even though we do our best to track people based on their IP, it's a less than 100% reliable method. Up to 75% of the votes on some covers are from the same IP range - we can't prevent it without blocking entire ranges, but it's very obvious that 20 or 30 10 star-votes for a single cover from a single IP range isn't entirely trustworthy. If Cover "A" has 100 10-star votes (1000 total), it's actual ranking might only be 25 10-star votes (250 total) which is a huge difference using the Total Stars method. By the Average Stars method, the result is the same (an average of 10/10).
Basically, a 10 star vote means more under the Total Stars method than it does under the Average Stars method, and that's what we're trying to avoid. People will say that the Average Stars method is unreliable because a single 1-star vote can offset a greater number of 10-star votes - this is true, but the reverse is also true - a single 10-star vote can offset a greater number of 1-star votes. Ultimately, on a long term vote such as this, with the total number of votes the system will take, the Average Stars method is a much, much fairer way to calculate the results, especially when combined with a minimum number of votes required. It's a better way of discounting fake votes, and a much better way of reflecting overall user opinion.
An additional benefit is that it keeps the Top Ten dynamic - under the Total Stars method, it's very difficult for unranked Cover "B" with just 5 votes gain enough total stars to appear in the top ten - people simple don't see it, or rate it - whilst at the same time, ranked Cover "A" with 100 votes will just gain more and more votes - even if they are 1-star votes, it's overall total will increase keeping it in the top ten, even though it's average rating will be much lower than Cover "B". Under the Average Stars method, this doesn't happen - Cover "B" has a much greater chance of being seen and voted on. If the votes are low, it will disappear from the top ten by itself, as it should - if they are high, it will stay there, as it deserves to.
That's our reasoning. We know there will always be people who think differently, no matter which system we use, so it's a no-win situation for us. What we hope to do is simple please most of the people, most of the time :)
Bottom line? It's just a bit of fun, a way for you to say "thanks" to the model and promote the model to others.
